Greetings, beloveds!

It's a cold clear January day. Tom went cross-country skiing last night under a full moon, and Katryna and I met with our long time cabal, Patty and The Smoeviators (not their real name) to plot our new year's schemes for World Domination. To wit:

  • We are not participating in the recession
  • We are participating in the joyous celebrations surrounding Barack Obama's inauguration
  • We want to make more YouTube videos. Preferably with puppets who don't have speech impediments.
  • We do not want to wear Tube tops
  • We would like to watch more TV (Nerissa)
  • We have a new Facebook page identity which we encourage you to Friend (my high school English teacher is most likely so horrified that we now use "friend" as a verb, but I LOVE it!). It's Nerissaandkatryna Nields. That seems to be the only way we could work around the problem of having a joint identity that lets us update our status on a minutely basis. ("Minutely"--see above about my high school English teacher.)
  • Nerissa is not participating in the recession, but she IS offering a 10 week teleclass called Journal For Peace-see here for more information.
  • Even though we have four small children and two husbands (one each), we are STILL travelling around the continent with a guitar and some voices to sing for those who are also not participating in the recession and want to feel glad about life. So we have gigs coming up for 2009 in New York, New England, Nova Scotia, the DC area, Charlottesville, VA and Florida!

But let me interrupt myself to tell you about the gigs we are doing this month.

  1. This Friday, Jan 16 we are playing at the Misson Bar (brand new!) in Pittsfield, the westernest big city in Massachusetts. THEY HAVE TAPAS!
  2. This Saturday, Jan 17 we are back at our beloved Sounding Board in West Hartford, CT, one of our favorite shows ever. We promise to play a new song at one of these gigs, even if it's my new 2 line composition, "Babar, the Elephant Rides the Elevator" (that's most of the words to the song, right there in the title.)
  3. Next Saturday, Jan 24 we are at what I think will be THE venue of the next decade, the Common Ground in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. This place is FABULOUS! And I'm bringing Johnny with me.

We have lots more to tell you, but I'm not allowed; the Cabal has tied my hands! Patty would deprive me of Italian Roast!

Okay, one more thing: Lila now sings all the words and notes to "Over the Rainbow." Katryna and I recorded it in the key of C for HooteNanny, but Lila much prefers Judy Garland's version in Ab. She says, "I wike when Dorothy sing this, Mama. It's slower." Then she sings it--in Ab, sort of--at Judy's tempo.

Wait, and another: someone just told me this great thing Patti Smith said: "The one thing I try to do is to make sure that at the end of the evening, no one feels as though they were played at." Amen to that. We want to play with you, not at you.

Happy new year!

Love, Nerissa and Katryna
