This CD is an offering to everyone who struggles to balance a home life -with or without kids or partner- with an artistic life, which is to say a work life. for all who labor honorably may choose to do so artistically. The older we get, the more precious both seem to us. I could certainly live without friends or family, but I am not sure I want to. I could let my work go, say goodbye to the muse and my Les Paul, but that would be saying goodbye to joy. We might be happier simplifying our lives, but as Katryna said when we first began this project with the title track, happiness might be overrated. Our cups overfloweth. We choose those cups, and we surrender to the reality that this means many many spills need to be cleaned up. Here’s to the mess. Thanks for joining us.

Rock All Day, Rock All Night

The second family album.  Nerissa and Katryna have been running an age 0-5 music class for the past two years, so many of these songs have been road tested by the most discriminating of audiences. As with their last family CD, All Together Singing in the Kitchen, their father John Nields appears on several of the songs.  The Nields had so much material they decided to make a double CD.  Rock All Day is up tempos for dancing, dinner making and car trips.  Rock All Night is a lullaby CD–perfect for playing in a nursery boom box for an every evening going-to-bed concert.

These are songs inspired by Amelia’s first two years of life. Nerissa, Amelia, and I holed up at Sackamusic just before Amelia’s bedtime on July 9. We made Dave stop mixing our record long enough to capture this music. Our plan for this did not include anything you hear, but once we were in front of a microphone and near a drumkit, Amelia got inspired. After the session, Dave went back to mixing. Nerissa, Amelia, and I went back to the house to put Amelia to bed. That’s when “One More Song” was born. I hope you have as much fun listening as we had recording.
